CASTLE HISTORY

The former Hazleton Area High School has a rich history and has been a landmark in the Hazleton area for over 80 years. Opening for the first time as a high school in 1928, the castle cost a meager $1,114,378.00. The castle remained a high school until 1992, when it became the area's central junior high school.

In September of 1992, the now Hazleton Area High School was built. The castle closed its doors in 1998 and went up for sale. Despite a few offers, nothing materialized of the sale and the castle remained dormant for many years. Several concerned citizens cared for the castle and tried tirelessly to have the building sold or re-opened. Very recently the dreams of these citizens became a reality. The Hazleton Area School Board voted to remodel the castle and once again turn it into a school.
